Beaches

Die Plaat, Walkerbay (5 minutes by car) has several beaches protected from the south-eastern winds by high cliffs. The whole area is part of the "Walkerbay Nature Reserve", managed by Cape Nature Conservation. The reserve stretches from de Kelders all the way to the Klein River Lagoon near the outskirts of Hermanus.

Stansfordbaai (2-3 mins by car) is a small sheltered cove which has a grassy area as well as a sandy beach with crystal clear water. The kelp forests at the entrance to the cove make it a good area to swim.

Uilenkraalsmond (5-10 mins by car) has wide open beaches, sand dunes and a tidal lagoon which is great for children.

Pearly Beach (15 mins by car) is often referred to as "The longest undisturbed sand beach in the Western Cape”. It has vast expanses of pristine white sand and many dunes. The rare African black Oyster Catcher is a regular sighting on the beach where it makes its nest.

Boulders beach (2 hours by car) while needing a full day out it is well worth driving to Boulders Beach (Simons Town, nr Cape Town). The beach is home to a colony of Jackass penguins who are quite happy sharing both their beach and ocean with us.
