Hiking Trails

Klipgat trail
A 7 km trail from the harbour of Gansbaai along the shore (right past Khumbula) to the entrance of the Walker Bay Nature Reserve and the famous Klipgat Cave, where some of the oldest remains of Mankind in the world (80,000 years old) were discovered. A fresh water fountain surfaces on the beach below the cave. The Klipgat trail offers stunning views of Walker Bay meandering through the special limestone-rock vegetation and past several larger and smaller caves and coves. Peer into the treacherous "Duiwelsgat", a deep hole connected to the sea at its bottom

Milkwood Hiking Trail
This hiking trail is in a conservation area where no plant or animal may be disturbed or harmed in any way. The trail is a circular route of 2 km. In addition to the old Milkwood trees, there are many other species of typical strandveld vegetation. Listen to the Bokmakierie singing a duet with his mate; look around for the shy purple Babianas and the tiny Vygie and rest for a while on a comfortable branch or log to enjoy the tranquillity of the bush. For more information on the Milkwood Hiking Trail Tel: +27 (0) 28 388 0099. (booking necessary)

Flower Valley
A nature reserve and fynbos estate. Flower Valley was established as a Unesco Project. The thousands of hectares of this reserve are both safeguarding the local Cape Floral Kingdom and provide a source of income for the local community. Indigenous flowers are harvested in the wild for the cut-flower trade. Flower Valley is a pilot project of the Agulhas Biodiversity Initiative for the sustainable harvest of fynbos-flowers.
